The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Bayern was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major boost to United’s attacking options. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought further activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
