The network's Leading New Show of 2025 Secures a Significant Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.

In October of last year, the late-night programming block saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the network launched a fresh animated series with a strikingly different vibe. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. During a period often defined by dark humor, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and propelled it a surprise hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

On December 18th, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the world of the Campbell family. The show centers on three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

Network Praise

In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He thanked the fans who found the show and advocated for its peculiarly charming appeal.

"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about following this lovable family go about their everyday routines.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa expressed his goal to evolve comedy past its long-running layer of irony. He linked this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

The Path Forward

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that very evolution. If nothing else, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to enjoy the warm glow of the endearing Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
