The Gaming Giant Hires Popular Battle Royale Producer to Revitalize Challenged Hero Shooter Ambitious Title
2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently working on the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Leadership Shift Comes After Mixed Reception
Brinkman steps into the leadership position at 31st Union following the dismissal of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to the game's underwhelming unveiling last fall.
Recently, 2K president David Ismailer notified team members about this organizational change through an official communication, which emphasized that early feedback sessions had indicated the need for a distinct game identity.
Ismailer expressed that the developers is now reimagining Project Ethos with a refreshed vision, aiming to address gamer demands.
Trend of Strategic Acquisitions
This announcement follows a comparable step taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they hired Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to assist with the beloved franchise development group.
Here is the complete content from the president's announcement:
Team—
I know you all just completed your meeting - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the good news. Last time I sent you all a note, I stated the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most motivated and talented designers we have had the chance to collaborate with - and we’re looking forward for that collaboration to continue.”
With your dedication and versatility, particularly over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.
The player input from last fall’s Project ETHOS demo was revealing. It confirmed the promise of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had improvements to make. It uncovered the requirement for a more distinct brand.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve come. You took the criticism to mind and overhauled Project ETHOS with a revitalized goal - one that’s poised to achieve its ambition to our fans.
The trust in this project strengthens every day. To further the outstanding advancement you’ve made, I am thrilled to welcome Ben Brinkman as the new Studio Head of 31st Union. Following several months of talks, he starts with us on the specified date.
His management and background in the competitive gaming field is considerable, having spent the past decade and a half developing and overseeing some of the most well-known titles in the industry, including the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, the battle royale hit.
I invite you all in receiving Ben next week. We are all looking forward to persist seeing the evolution of the game in the weeks to ahead.
The President
