Shock as Renowned South African DJ Gunned Down in Johannesburg.

A renowned South African media personality and entertainer has been shot dead in the metropolis of Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a country battling persistent crime.

Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the downtown area on a Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities reported the 40-year-old media personality was confronted by three suspects, with one shot at him before fleeing on foot.

The purpose of the shooting remains unclear and no arrests have taken place, police said.

How It Happened

Law enforcement indicated that Stock was ambushed as he was exiting a premises near the city center landmark.

He had devoted time at the property managing the setup of security systems, which had been reportedly taken over by unknown people, it was reported.

"The report indicates the man was confronted by three unidentified men after parking his vehicle, and they began shooting at him before running from the location on foot," a police statement said.

Security camera video showed a suspect with dreadlocks and dressed in what looked like a guard's attire firing shots on Stock before making his escape.

The DJ sought to escape after he was hit but collapsed across the street.

Police added that Stock had an unused firearm and it was not a robbery during the attack.

Important clues, like cartridges, were found at the scene.

Police have appealed eyewitnesses who may have seen the suspects to come forward.

"We know they walked a long distance after the attack, and police have been following their trail to establish their whereabouts," stated a police chief.
