Kansas City Chiefs Confirm Domestic Violence Allegations Connected to Wide Receiver the Athlete
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night indicating they are aware of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and had been in communication with the league office.
The team did not mention the player specifically in their announcement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Posted on Social Media
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name the athlete directly, posted a series of photos on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. Jones stated the person involved was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has two children with the football player, whom the team selected in the second round.
Official Complaints Currently Not on File
No police reports were available in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Rice's Recent Off-Field Troubles
The receiver missed the initial part of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in instigating a crash on a Texas roadway that left multiple people injured. He was given 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
On the field, Rice finished the season with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Kansas City finished 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
