Massive waste site

The site has been described as an "environmental catastrophe".
Correspondent visited the scene and stated the pile appeared to be "six meters tall at least".

Waste criminals have discarded a huge quantity of rubbish in a rural area in Oxfordshire.

The "environmental crisis unfolding in public view" is around 150m (490ft) in length and 6m (20ft) tall.

The massive pile has appeared in a field alongside the River Cherwell near Kidlington.

Elected official raised the issue in parliament, saying it was "risking an environmental disaster".

Protection organization reported the unauthorized waste site was formed around a recently by an organised crime group.

"This represents an ecological disaster developing in public view.

"Every day that elapses elevates the risk of poisonous drainage getting into the river system, contaminating wildlife and endangering the wellbeing of the whole watershed.

"Environmental authorities must take action now, not in months or years, which is their typical response period."

Access ban had been put in place by the environmental authorities.

It is difficult to recognize any individual bits of waste as it seems to have been pulverized with soil combined.

Part of the garbage from the uppermost part of the heap has toppled and is now merely five feet from the waterway.

The River Cherwell is a feeder stream of the River Thames, which means it runs through Oxford before joining the Thames.

Government debate about waste crisis Parliament TV
The MP stated the cost of clearing the waste would be significant

The representative asked the government for support to eliminate the illegal site before it triggered a fire or was washed away into the river system.

Speaking to MPs on Thursday, he declared: "Illegal operators have deposited a huge quantity of illegal polymer rubbish... amounting to many tons, in my electoral area on a floodplain adjacent to the River Cherwell.

"Stream volumes are growing and thermal imaging show that the garbage is also increasing in temperature, raising the danger of blaze.

"Regulatory body stated it has inadequate capabilities for enforcement, that the projected expense of disposal is larger than the entire twelve-month budget of the regional government."

Government official stated the authorities had assumed responsibility for a struggling waste industry that had resulted in an "widespread problem of illegal waste disposal".

She advised representatives the agency had issued a prohibition notice to prevent more admission to the site.

In a declaration, the agency stated it was examining the matter and appealed for details.

It said: "We understand the public's concern about situations like this, which is why we respond against those accountable for illegal dumping."

A newly released study determined attempts to address significant illegal dumping have been "extremely under-prioritised" even though the problem developing into larger and more advanced.

Government advisors recommended an independent "comprehensive" inquiry into how "prevalent" waste crime is dealt with.
