'Enduring a Horrific Ordeal': Families of Missing Young People Desperately Seek Answers After Ski Resort Blaze

The loved ones of teens unaccounted for after a deadly blaze at a venue in a Switzerland's alpine town are facing an agonising period of uncertainty for answers and pleading for any details about their children via social media.

The blaze engulfed the a popular bar in Cans-Montana, located in the mountains of the Valais region, in the middle of the night of New Year's Day. Circulated video reveal the roof structure igniting as beverages with sparklers are held aloft.

Officials have warned that it could take days if not weeks to formally name the those who perished of the fire, which claimed the lives of numerous partygoers and wounded another scores more. Officials said on Friday that 113 of the those hurt have been identified, with work still underway to locate the remaining few.

In the meantime, relatives have been taking to online platforms to appeal for clues about their friends who were at the bar that fateful night.

Appeals for the Unaccounted For

The location of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, sixteen, are still unconfirmed, according to an heartfelt request from his parent.

The resident of Lutry near Lausanne, told a publication that she had gone back to Lausanne to see if he was in the medical facility, while his father did the same in Bern, but did not locate him.

"This is a living nightmare, a nightmare. The options are finding my son in the morgue, or I find him in a serious state. It's terrible," she told the paper.

She added that some of his peers had been discovered with injuries covering nearly half their bodies. "It's unspeakable; they endured hell."

The Italian foreign ministry has indicated that six of its nationals have not been located.

Teenage sportsman Emanuele Galeppini, sixteen, was last in contact around the turn of the new year on December 31st, his father said.

One of those is Emanuele Galeppini, a teenage junior golfer, who hailed from Italy but now living in the UAE.

The Italian Golf Federation has said that he is deceased, without mentioning the fire, honoring a "talented young man who embodied dedication and true sportsmanship."

His parent, told media that his son was at the bar and was last in contact around the new year. An official spokesperson has stated that a official announcement of his death is awaited.

Other Cases

Giovanni Tamburi, 16, is likewise among the missing. His parent said that he had been on holiday but had gone out with a group and ended up at the venue.

"A close friend informed me they ran away after the fire started and that he had his mobile with him, but then at a specific moment he they were separated," she said, adding he had been wearing a distinctive gold chain.

One of his educators commented, "I've always been struck by his kindness and smile, coupled with great maturity. Often offer to help out."

Alice Kallergis, who holds both Swiss and Greek citizenship but lives permanently in the country, was also present on New Year's Eve, according to media.

Her brother has published an appeal online, saying the relatives has had "no information" regarding the 15-year-old or the three friends she was with, who are also unaccounted for.

Consular authorities from her country of origin say they are actively engaged with the situation.
