American Authorities Report Detainment in Thwarted Year-End Terror Scheme Near Los Angeles
US authorities declared on Monday that they had effectively disrupted a elaborate plan to explode bombs at several facilities run by two corporate businesses on New Year's Eve in the southern part of the state. The operation resulted from the detainment of individuals linked to an extremist faction promoting anti-corporate and anti-establishment views.
Those Arrested Taken Into Custody During Isolated Rehearsal
Four suspects were taken into custody last Friday in the Mojave Desert located east of Los Angeles as they were allegedly rehearsing their planned attack. Officials presented from above monitoring images to the media, that showed the suspects carrying a big black object to a surface. Officials noted that the apprehensions occurred before the suspects could put together a working bomb.
Details of the Those Charged Released
As per the submitted legal filing, the four people listed are a 30-year-old named Audrey Illeene Carroll; Page, 32; Dante Gaffield, 24; and Tina Lai, who is 41. All four are said to be from the Los Angeles region.
Reported Motive and Connections
While prosecutors did not clearly describe a motive, they stated the suspects are part of a faction dubbed the Turtle Island Liberation Front. The group allegedly urges "workers to rise up and combat against corporate power," as per the criminal complaint.
They face involve conspiracy to commit a crime and having a explosive. The government stated that more charges are likely in the next few weeks.
Elements of the Supposed "The Midnight Sun Plan"
Authorities revealed that one of the individuals had devised a detailed scheme last month to attack at least five business locations across Southern California on New Year's Eve. The locations were described as "Amazon-type" fulfillment warehouses.
"The bomb plot was specific," the attorney stated. "It contained detailed directions to construct explosive devices … and named multiple sites across Orange County and Los Angeles."
According to the probe and legal filings, the plan involved placing bags containing sophisticated IEDs that were planned to be exploded simultaneously at midnight on New Year's Eve at 5 places. New Year's Eve was identified as an opportune time as the scheme noted "fireworks will be going off at this time so blast noises will be harder to be detected."
An eight-page handwritten blueprint, called "OPERATION MIDNIGHT SUN," noted that more sites could be added. The facilities were identified as assets and facilities owned by two distinct firms connected with business affecting commerce.
Future Schemes and Materials Found
Court documents also indicated that two people in the faction had planned future strikes targeting ICE agents officers and transport with pipe bombs in 2026. One suspect allegedly said that such actions "would eliminate some and intimidate the rest of them."
The plotting were allegedly planned both at an physical gathering in Los Angeles and through an secure communication application.
Photos featured in the court documents depict a isolated site with what investigators identified as explosives-manufacturing materials scattered on plastic folding tables.
The filing details that the suspects "each brought IED parts to the site, including different sizes of PVC pipes, believed to be a chemical compound, charcoal, powdered charcoal, sulfur powder, and material to be used as fuses, and more."
The scheme also contained directions on how to manufacture the bombs and how to prevent leaving traces that could be linked back to the group. The suspects had in the recent past obtained components and other goods, with purchases from e-commerce sites.
Arrest and Aftermath
Authorities moved in last week while the group were practicing the operation in the isolated region near a California town. "They owned all the components they were necessary to build an operational bomb at that site," the attorney stated.
As part of carried out searches, authorities reportedly found signs for the Turtle Island Liberation Front at one individual's home that called for "America Must Fall", and "Eliminate ICE". At another suspect's home, police discovered a duplicate of the comprehensive explosives scheme.
Those arrested were detained without a struggle. They were scheduled to make a court appearance in Los Angeles on Monday afternoon.
