A Ton of Anime News Landed During the Festive Season
The Yuletide season offer a multitude of pastimes considerably more enjoyable than scanning the headlines: unwrapping gifts, getting stuffed on festive fare, and harnessing meditation skills to avoid yelling at family members. It is wished you were able to accomplish all these things and more. However, the world of entertainment doesn't go on vacation, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. A slew of thrilling developments surfaced during the holidays, and if you missed any, here is a summary of the juiciest bits.
One-Punch Man Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (By 2027)
Perhaps the most shocking revelation, the notorious disaster that was season 3 of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to stop further production. The show will be back with a second cour in 2027—a date so remote they easily could have dubbed it season 4. Adding to the surprise, animation studio J.C. Staff will still be leading the project. Thankfully this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the start, which is seen as a positive development. However, the main art for the new episodes is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This suggests that, by now, they must be mocking the fans.
Ruri Dragon Will Be the First Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has established a name for being an elite animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the high caliber of its output but for the ethical practices of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not adapted an anime stemming from a manga from Shonen Jump, arguably the best-known magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained massive popularity when it first appeared in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a lengthy break due to the mangaka's health issues. When it returned with a lighter schedule, the series showed it hadn't lost the fans' support and goodwill, and now fans are thrilled about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Season 6 Is Getting a Follow-Up Currently in Production
Kingdom is the top-selling, long-running Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English translation, but the anime has been going on for years, and season 6 was another outstanding entry. As it happens that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in production, and it will very likely premiere in 2026.
Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
One more studio renowned for the artistic merit of its productions, Science Saru has delivered critically acclaimed works of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the real historical figure of Fatima, an prominent woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and fascinating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my watchlist.
Tougen Anki Will Return With a Second Season
Right after the release of episode 24, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be receiving a second season. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm air date has not been disclosed yet.
